چکیده

The pancreatic substance containing insulin1 used in the experiments recorded below was prepared from the pancreas of hogs according to the method developed2 by Mr. George B. Walden of the Lilly Research Laboratories, and which has been published by the Council of Pharmacy and Chemistry of the American Medical Association.3 This experiment, which is an extension of Mr. Walden’s work, was started at the suggestion of Dr. G. H. A. Clowes with the hope of isolating the physiologically active substance as a compound possessing a definite chemical constitution, or at least of determining some characteristic react, ion peculiar to the active principle. Though neither of these results has been achieved it was thought that the somewhat disconnected data secured might be of interest. A solution of insulin, thus prepared, gives almost all the protein tests, and consists chiefly of proteoses, together with some peptones, peptides, and amino-acids. Different lots prepared

Tutorial Review: Simulation of Oscillating Chemical Reactions Using Microsoft Excel Macros

Oscillating reactions are one of the most interesting topics in chemistry and analytical chemistry. Fluctuations in concentrations of one the reacting species (usually a reaction intermediate) create an oscillating chemical reaction. In oscillating systems, the reaction is far from thermodynamic equilibrium. In these systems, at least one autocatalytic step is required. Developing an instinctiv...

The modified recombinant proinsulin: a simple and efficient route to produce insulin glargine in E. coli

Background: Recombinant insulin glargine, a long-acting analogue of insulin, is expressed as proinsulin in host cell and after purification and refolding steps cleaved to active insulin by enzymatic digestion using trypsin and carboxypeptidase B. Since the proinsulin's B and C chains have several internal arginine and lysine residues, a number of impurities are generated following treatment wit...

Chemical salt reactions as algebraic hyperstructures

A salt metathesis reaction is a chemical process involving the exchange of bonds between two reacting chemical species, which results in the creation of products with similar or identical bonding affiliations. Hyperstructure theory is studied from the theoretical point of view and for its applications. In this paper, we provide some examples of hyperstructures associated with salt m...
